That depends on the type of session. We take more images when kids are involved because they are much more active and expressive. During a family portrait session in the studio I may only take a few shots of each pose. Either way what I deliver back to you is a selection of only the best images from the session. On average you'll see between 30-60 proofs from a session with 5-8 of those being AaronVan Signature Images. You will then make your final order from this set of proofs.
AaronVan Photography takes appointments 7 days a week and is typically booked at least 2 weeks in advance. As soon as you know what date you would prefer call the studio or email us to check the avaialability of that date. Studio sessions can be booked for any time of day, on location shoots are best in the early morning 1-2 hours after sunrise or late afternoon about 2 hours before sunset for the best lighting.
We keep a close eye on the weather and do our very best to catch any possible problems before a session, however, If weather becomes a problem for a scheduled outdoor session you have the option of moving the session to our studio or upon the discretion of AaronVan Photography we will reschedule your session. Ultimatly our goal is to deliver the best product possible and we do what is necessary to achieve that goal.
Our work is very personal, we focus everything we do with our session around who you are and what you are looking for in your images. With our new clients we like to get to know who you are, your style, your history, your preferences on a range of items. Rather than send you a questionaire to fill out we like to do this in person before your first scheduled session. We know our clients very well and this helps us to deliver a product that they love! Of course we have our own artistic sensabilities and you do not have to know what you want but even that conversation helps us to find the right direction for your work. This consultation also allows you to become more familiar and comfortable with us as your photographer. The more you know about the process the more at ease you are and the more at ease you are the better the photos.
You should consider holding your maternity sessions around the 35th week of pregnancy. We are usually booked at least two weeks in advance so be sure to book your appointment far enough ahead of time.
It is best to wear loose clothing to your session, the elastic in maternity clothes cause marks and impressions that take time to relax. Some of the favorites are a collored buttoned up shirt, usually one of your signifigant others, a few sizes too large. Pair of jeans from before your pregnancy, these will usually be tight and will not button up, that is to be expected and part of the look. Maternity jeans with the elastic support top are not recommended. Intimate wear works best if it is simple, boy shorts are best for bottoms, simple designs like lace or decoration but solid colors work best. Same with bras, solid colors simple decoration. We have top and bottom wraps at the studio but anything else that you think has a photographic quality or displays your individual style bring it along.
Newborn sessions are best within the first 7-14 days of life, 10 days being the best. After that window, babies become more active and want to push out with their arms and legs causing difficulties with posing and stability. Baby acne also starts to set in and they are more awake and alert making it more difficult to get those quiet moments. Newborn sessions are booked on the mother's due date and are, of course, subject to baby's arrival. We keep our schedule very flexible for our pregnant mothers and ask that someone from your family be tasked with calling the studio after the birth so we can have as much time as possible to accomodate your new babies session.
