If you think about a wedding day, a person will spend 20, 30, $40,000 and up for a single day event and yet when it comes to the person who is going to help you capture and remember that day it is sometimes hard to understand the cost. My belief about this is simply a lack of education on the subject. There are so many levels of photograhy and it is a medium that is wide open, it seems everywhere you look someone you know is a photographer. Retail photo studios and their marketing tactics have you thinking that photography is inexpensive. The availability of a digital camera also helps with this thought. Even in the professional world a single lens can cost you as little as $80 and as much as $3500+. The cost of this business is all relative to the quality of the output and photography is for sure a, you get what you pay for, business.
I'm not trying to defend my work here, i'll let my images do that, I simply want to provide a bit of education on the subject so that after understanding some of the facts you can make your own educated choice about who you are going to work with.
Photography has three main expense centers. First is the education needed to produce a quality product, second is the equipment, software and hardware, were not talking Best Buy here and the third is the overhead of running a business. All of these factors go into making your images. An amature photographer will surly be able to offer lower rates however be sure to look at the whole picture when choosing who you are going to work with. Some situations do not have reshoot opportunities so be educated about who you trust with your photography.
That being said take a browse through my portfolio, compare all the apples and contact me for a consultation.
